Eg-update 15.1
Friends, Grockles, Egyptophiles,
1. IMPORTANT NOTICE.
You should, by now, have received at least one (and some of you, two)
notices telling you that Ive switched my website URL from www.jawest.com to
www.jawest.net. So if you want to access the website, use the new url.
I have also switched the host from AOL, which was exceedingly
list-unfriendly (among a number of irritating features and problems, I could
never get the blasted BCC function to work right, and many of you were
getting my updates with a long screen of unwanted names attached.)
The new host is Dreamhost. There will no longer be problems of this sort.
HOWEVER, Dreamhost is very spam-wary, and they insist that if I am send out
group mailings, everyone on my list must have asked explicitly to be on it.
So this is a last chance.
I have also acquired a second email jawsphinx at jawest.net. However, the aol
address jawsphinx at aol.com to is still functioning and will continue to
function until I have everything sorted out. I may end up keeping both.

Alumni Trip 2004
Im sorry to report that after a considerable show of initial interest in
this trip, not enough people signed on to make it fly. Since this was the
third failed attempt to get it going, I take that as a sign from the gods
that its not supposed to and I wont try again. Im sorry about that, I
was particularly keen myself on the optional add-on trip to the Siwa Oasis,
and if the demand justifies it, I may make that an add-on to one of my
regular trips.
I think those of you whove been on trip with me already might like to know
that people who decide to do a repeat invariably report that in a way, the
second time around was even better. You do not, of course, experience that
incredible initial impact that Egypt gives you, but its an unfailing
reaction that the combination of Egypt, and the onslaught of information
that you get the first time is impossible to thoroughly process. Everyone
without exception says that second trip provides the in-depth understanding.
It would be much appreciated if those whove traveled with me before do a
bit of PR and tell your friends and relatives about the trips. Egypt remains
as safe as anywhere else in the world. The warm reaction we get as
Americans remains unchanged which I find nothing short of miraculous. But
thats how it is.
3. JAW ON THE GHMB
Though Ive learned from bitter experience to avoid getting involved in chat
room and message board controversies about the age of the Sphinx and related
Egypt issues which take an inordinate amount of time and accomplish
nothing-- sometimes I find it impossible to resist.
Recently, there was a typical convoluted sequence of threads on the Graham
Hancock message board (GHMB). A number of regulars from thehallofmaat
website had moved over to GHMB (possibly officially dispatched by the Maatzi
High Command to establish a beachhead prior to attempting a hostile
takeover?). In any event, they were trying to nibble and quibble the Sphinx
weathering hypothesis to bits.
For a variety of reasons I decided to dive in to this one, which of course
resulted in a still longer tangle of threads. But for those of you who are
retired, privately wealthy or living on welfare, or just have nothing else
to do with your lives all day long, some of this wad of words may be of
interest; in particular a long response written as a separate article
(rather than as a thread that gets buried in the tangle). A Sincere Double
Apology from John Anthony West was posted to the GH Forum. Following is the
link to that article, and after that links to at least some of the preceding
and subsequent palaver (possibly not in the correct order but youll figure
it out.)

4. Breaking News
Some Serious, Substantive Issues & A Psycholinguistic Analysis
Still more words!! Not long ago, everybodys favorite archaeologist,
Garrett Fagan, posted a virulently negative 37 page review of Robert Schoch
s most recent book Voyages of the Pyramid Builders on the Hall of Maat
Website. http://www.hallofmaat.com/maat/article.php?sid=79 .
Intemperate and apoplectic, even by Fagan standards, this provoked another
tangle of threads, most of them accolades of support and applause from
Maatzis-in-Residence but with a few dissenting voices in the mix. It seemed
to me the outnumbered dissenters could use some support as well. Moreover,
both the tone and content of this Fagan review and the brouhaha that
accompanied it provided an opportunity to deal with a variety of topics
germane to the ongoing Sphinx controversy and related issues in a new and
I like to think- amusing way. This essay is the result.
If this is the first youve heard of the Fagan review, before reading my
response its not a bad idea to read it first and even follow some of the
threads, anyway, as much of it as you can handle, to put it all into
context. Appreciating Fagan is admittedly something of an acquired taste,
and many of you probably have not acquired it. If youre one of those, my
essay is pretty much self-explanatory.

Its too long to send as an email, so its sent as an attached file.

HOW THE PYRAMID WAS BUILT
maybe
For some time Ive been in touch with Wally Wallingford, who has spent a
lifetime as problem solver on construction projects. Wally has been looking
into the possibility of moving the huge blocks of the pyramid with very
basic technology, and has come up with a method that uses a double fulcrum
under the block, with the fulcrums placed on either side of center. This
allows him to move and manoeuvre very substantial blocks around single
handed with relative ease. While that is a long way from proving thats
how the ancients did it, its the first systematically developed practical
demonstration Ive seen that might actually work, especially if employed by
highly skilled workers with generations of practice behind them. Following
is an email from Wallingford with links to his web site.
>John Anthony West:
Just wanted to update you on my project.
In October Discovery Channel Canada witnessed, moving and standing on end of
my ten ton block.
They spent 3 days filming in my back yard.
The segment they did (Secrets of Stonehenge) has aired in Canada, and may
soon be airing in the US.
It can also be viewed at www.EXN.CA.
I have also updated my site www.theforgottentechnology.com
Everything went well and as planned, I also included as you suggested
rolling the block to service the fulcrums under.
Thanks for your interest Wally<

Thats it for now.
All the best,
John Anthony West
