Dear, dear Grockles,

My tears are flowing, for I have just read this note that was posted about
an hour ago by Vanese to the Magical Egypt 2 film page on facebook. She's
the producer. Please note that John always cared about you guys and it was
always my job to post things here, to you, first, before the rest of the
world saw anything on the website.

Dear friends and family,

This is a very difficult message to write after a long list of
communications we have had to send out over the course of the last 14
months. John has taken a turn for the worst. In spite of all our many
ceaseless efforts to help him turn this around, taking many different
routes and trying every possible method both alternative and conventional,
he continues to decline with mounting severe obstacles each week.

Over a month ago his left lung collapsed completely, and about a week ago
his kidneys failed. His heart rate is now slowing down as well. Dad made it
very clear to us from the beginning, upon receiving his diagnosis, that he
did not want to live a life on life support. Although it's truly impossible
to know for sure what recovery could look like, it is very clear that he
would not have the quality of life he would want, nor the quality of life
we would want for him.

It was because of the virtually limitless support and aid from all of you
that we were able to have him with us for another year. He effectively beat
cancer, however his body was not able to bounce back the way we thought it
could.

The money that has been donated thus far will go to pay for costs for
funeral/cremation expenses. We will keep the fundly open and continue to
leave updates throughout this most difficult period.

As it stands right now we are probably going to be moving to "comfort care"
at the hospital on Thursday, barring some miraculous upturn, all indicators
have been pointing at worsening kidney functionality (near total renal
failure) and increasing lung congestion. We have been keeping a close eye
on all his lab results and overall physical appearance over these past
weeks and at this stage there has been no improvements with either. This
switch would involve discontinuing the ventilator support and letting his
body decide what he needs to do and where he is required to be.

We are all deeply thankful for his powerful presence in all our lives. And
as he said in his last speaking engagement when asked about preserving his
legacy "... I don't actually give a damn about that ... that's their job"
he said, talking about other people. With the far reach of his work and the
influence in both his personal field of study along with all those
connected to it, not only his legacy but he himself, lives on through all
of us who were inspired to pick up the torch and to never shy away from
that which we are able to illuminate with it.

Again we thank you all for your kind and essential support through this
most difficult process. We have tried to include everyone we could think of
that should receive this letter but are fully aware that it's impossible to
come up with a comprehensive list, please don't hesitate to pass this along
to anybody you feel needs to be informed with these developments.
